Pets and animals
Pets are an important part of your family – don’t forget to make a plan for them also. For public health reasons, many emergency shelters cannot accept pets. Your plan should include microchipping your pet and identifying pet-friendly shelters in case of an evacuation. Possible shelters could be pet-friendly hotels, out-of-town family or friends or boarding kennels. Make a pet-specific kit also. Include enough food and water for at least three days, medications and medical records, a photo of you and your pet, comfort items, pet first aid kit, sanitation supplies, a carrier and a leash, tags, etc. For more tips regarding pets and other animals, check out Ready.gov’s excellent Pets and Animals link. |
