Families
Families come in all shapes, colors and sizes. And through the years, our needs and those of our family members change. Thus while the basic principles of preparing for emergencies and disasters are the same: be informed, make a plan, get a kit, be involved, the specifics change. With school age children our plan would include knowing the school’s emergency plan and how to reunite with our children after a disaster. A family emergency kit for a family with an infant, older adults or pets would all need to be tailored for specific needs. Young independent adults need their own plans and emergency kits also. And most of us, according to our skills and abilities, can play a role in helping others before, during and after a disaster. Remember, after a disaster your best resource is the person standing next to you – your family, your neighbors, your friends.
